Saplings and dark deep woods.
This piece represented for Tom the hopes associated with his intended move to St Columb when he and Gabrielle first chose their new home. The bungalow they found had already been called Berkana by a previous owner. The name turned out to be a Norse rune meaning birch and apparently signifies such things as fruition and ripening, qualities they definitely wanted to manifest in their autumnal years. So the birch sapling shown in this picture gave Tom the opportunity to celebrate such aspirations through the painting process.
